Whether you have ambitions to become a Mountain Leader or take on an 8,000m peak, a Mountain Skills Course is a great first step.
A Mountain Skills Course is a great alternative corporate team building or leadership development programme that concludes with a nationally recognised certification for all attendees.
At the conclusion of the course, you will have gained a collection of skills essential to enjoying the mountains in the UK safely, and fantastic memories that will stay with you.
Our courses are delivered by highly experienced International Mountain Leaders and you will be introduced to the skills and techniques required to enjoy the mountains in your own time.
Due to the nature of the programme, our favourite location is Snowdonia (Eryri) but we can run the course in all mountainous locations in the UK.
Planning – how to successfully plan a safe walk in the UK and Irish mountains.
Walking skills – what you should consider while out walking and what can make life easier (pace, nutrition, movement skills, steep ground etc.).
Clothing and equipment – being suitably dressed and equipped can make the difference between a great day out and a total disaster…
Weather – how it affects the mountains, and your big day out.
Navigation in the mountains – everything from selecting a compass and using a map to navigation in poor visibility and an intro to GPS.
Environmental knowledge – how to minimise your impact on the hill, information on good practice and useful organisations.
Hazards and emergency procedures in the mountains – how to respond to any hazards you face, and what to do in an emergency.
The physical effort required on these days will be more demanding than our Hill Skills course and you can expect to be out in the mountains for between 5-6 hours each day. Due to the nature of the course, our preferred location is Snowdonia, but we can deliver the course in the Peak District or Scotland if that is more convenient.
Please do get in touch to discuss your requirements and we will look forward to sharing our immense passion for all things mountains!
A Mountain Skills Course would make a great alternative to the normal corporate team building days that you may be used to. What better way to challenge and build your team than allowing them to experience first hand the beauty and challenge of the mountains whilst working together to overcome adversity. We’re sure that your colleagues will be talking about their days in the mountains for months to come!
