Over the past couple of weeks, Duke of Edinburgh Award students from across the UK have been making the most of the glorious spring weather and proving just what they’re capable of in the great outdoors.
Led by the experienced and supportive team at Wilderness Expertise, students have taken on their DofE expeditions with determination and enthusiasm. Whether navigating through local countryside, climbing in the Welsh mountains, or exploring unfamiliar trails further afield, they’ve embraced every challenge head-on.
Throughout their journeys, students have been learning how to plan routes carefully—thinking about terrain, timings, rest breaks and water stops. The climbs have tested their stamina, but the sense of achievement at every summit has been immense.
With guidance from our instructors, they’ve developed key expedition skills: cooking on trangias (some delicious, some… experimental!), looking after their kit, and adapting to life on the trail. They’ve also taken part in practical first aid training—learning how to care for themselves and others in the outdoor environment, building confidence and responsibility along the way.
We’ve especially loved supporting so many Bronze participants as they completed their assessed expeditions. Seeing them put all their training into practice—navigating with independence, solving problems on the go, and working together as a team—has been a real highlight.
To every DofE student who’s been out with us recently: you’ve been brilliant. You’ve shown resilience, leadership, humour and heart. The sunshine might have helped, but it’s your effort, attitude and teamwork that made these expeditions such a success.
From all of us at Wilderness Expertise – congratulations on everything you’ve achieved. We’re proud to be part of your DofE journey.
